In 1969, Mr. Jose Yu Sunsay founded Hong Kong International Knitwear Manufacturing Company, which has expanded over the past decades to develop into a diversified corporation – HKI Group. Mr. Yu has since served as chairman of the Group.

In the 1970s, the textile and garment manufacturing business inaugurated by Mr. Yu paved a solid foundation for the Group’s businesses to become global and diversified. In 1995, under Mr. Yu’s leadership, HKI Group began to tap into the real estate market in Beijing. Large-scale, vibrant development projects including Beijing International Friendship Garden, Cyber Tower and Beijing Fortune Plaza have since been launched. Over the years, the Group has established itself as a quality developer.
At present, Mr. Yu is a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. In 1995, Mr. Yu was appointed as a member of the Preparatory Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, serving in the Chief Executive Subgroup and Economic Subgroup. From 1994 to 1997, he was appointed as Hong Kong Affairs Adviser by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong Branch. On 1 July 1998, Mr. Yu was appointed as a Justice of the Peace. In 1999, he was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (S.B.S.), and in 2007, the Gold Bauhinia Star (G.B.S.). From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Yu served as a member of the Town Planning Board of Hong Kong. From 2003 to 2005, he served as the President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and a council member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. In 2004, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region appointed Mr. Yu as a member of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council and a member of the Economic and Employment Council. In January 2008, Mr. Yu was appointed a member of the Presidium of the Conference for Electing Deputies of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to the 11th National People's Congress.

Mr. Yu is active in the business circles. He is currently Chairman of the Board of HK Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China; Permanent Honorary President of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong; Chairman of the Senate of Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong; a standing committee member of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce; Chartered President of Hong Kong Commerce and Industry Associations Limited; Permanent Honorary President of Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Association; Honorary President of Fukien Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of World Association of Shishi Natives; Chairman of Chinese Tea Culture International Exchange Association; and Vice Chairman of Hong Kong-Chongqing Economic Association.

While pursuing his career goals, Mr. Yu also dedicates himself to education. He is the founder of Fujian Shishi City No. 1 Secondary School, the director of the Education Foundation of Tsinghua University and the advisory professor of Nanjing University. In addition, Mr. Yu is the director of Nanjing University, Fudan University, Jinan University and Huaqiao University. In Hong Kong, he is a court member of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a member of the Advisory Board on Business Studies of Lingnan University. Mr. Yu is also a life member of Charles Darwin University Foundation, Australia and has been awarded by the same university an Honorary Degree of the Doctor of Economics.
